ANTIMONY PRODUCTS

Antimony products are materials derived from the element antimony (Sb), widely used in industries for their flame-retardant and strengthening properties. The most common product is antimony trioxide (Sb₂O₃), which acts as a flame-retardant synergist when combined with halogen compounds, helping to reduce fire spread in plastics, rubber, and cables. Antimony metal is mainly used in lead alloys, especially in batteries, to improve hardness and durability. Other compounds like antimony pentoxide and sodium antimonate are used in glass, ceramics, and chemical applications. Overall, antimony products play an important role in enhancing fire safety, strength, and performance across various industrial sectors, although they must be handled carefully due to potential toxicity at high exposure levels.

Common Antimony Products

  1. Antimony Trioxide (Sb₂O₃)

    • Most widely used product

    • Acts as a flame retardant synergist (works with halogens)

  2. Antimony Metal (Ingot/Form)

    • Used in lead alloys

    • Improves hardness and strength

  3. Antimony Pentoxide / Sodium Antimonate

    • Used in plastics, glass, and catalysts

 Key Applications

    • Plastics & Rubber → Fire retardant

    • Cables & Wires → Reduces flame spread

    • Batteries (Lead-acid) → Strengthens plates

    • Glass & Ceramics → Improves clarity
